About

The Short Version

I'm Jonathan Wright. Writer, designer, and builder of automated systems, based in Asheville. I started Wright's Freelancing Co. with nothing but a laptop and stubbornness, and grew it into a multi-service studio built for small businesses and solo operators who don't have agency budgets.

My story

From nothing to a full-service studio

I started with nothing. No safety net, no financial cushion, and no plan B — just a laptop and a very clear understanding that I had to build something that worked, fast.

Wright's Freelancing Co. started in 2013 as a one-person shop taking whatever writing and virtual assistance work I could find. Over the years it evolved — first into content strategy, then SEO, then AEO as the search landscape shifted, and now into AI automation and creative design as those disciplines caught up to what I'd always wanted to build.

Thirteen years later, it's a real business: four core service lines, a family of side brands, and a growing list of niches I've researched deeply enough to build actual products around. None of that happened by accident.

That's not a highlight reel. That's just what it looks like when you don't have the option of quitting.

My mission

To build a business that proves where you start doesn't determine where you end up — and to give small businesses and solo operators access to the same caliber of strategy, design, and systems that bigger companies take for granted.

The brands behind the name

One operator, a full ecosystem

Wright's Freelancing Co. is the agency — the professional side. But I run a family of brands, each serving a different audience. Running them solo is exactly why I got serious about systems and automation.

Mr. Wide Awake

Essays and video on Substack, YouTube, and social — consciousness, behavior, and waking up, without the guru act.

Metaphysical and spiritual content for a dedicated, searching audience.

Custom Gift Creations

E-commerce

Personalized products and e-commerce — practical creative work with a personal touch.

Red Ink Tattoo

Why it matters

The point

Running multiple brands as a solo operator isn't a humble brag. It's the reason every hour has to count — and why your project gets real systems, not guesswork.

What I actually believe

Reliable beats polished

I believe the best freelancers aren't the most polished — they're the most reliable. Show up, do the work, communicate clearly, and deliver what you said you'd deliver. That's 80% of being excellent in this industry.

I believe authenticity converts better than perfection. People can smell a template from three paragraphs away.

I believe small businesses and everyday entrepreneurs deserve the same quality of digital strategy that Fortune 500 companies get. Most agencies aren't interested in you unless you're already big. I built WFC specifically for the people those agencies ignore.

And I believe research beats guesswork — which is why I go deep on specific problems instead of claiming to be a generalist at everything.

Communication

I keep you in the loop. No ghosting, no vague updates. You'll always know where your project stands.

Research

I don't guess. Before I write a word or build a workflow, I understand your business, your audience, and your goals.

What I stand on

Five values, no exceptions

Communication

No ghosting, no vague updates. You'll always know where your project stands.

Research

Before I write or build anything, I understand your business, audience, and goals.

Creativity

I look at the big picture and the details. I build what fits, not what's convenient.

Relationships

I'm not chasing one-off gigs. I build long-term partnerships with people I believe in.

Resilience

Setbacks are information, not verdicts. That mindset is contagious — and it shows in the work.
